Tüm dünyada halen 34 milyon kişi HIV’le yaşıyor. Yılda iki milyon kişi AIDS nedeniyle yaşamını kaybederken her yıl 2.7 milyon yeni vaka ortaya çıkıyor. Bunların 430 binini çocuklar, 910 binini gençler oluşturuyor. HIV pozitiflerin yüzde 40’ı bu virüsü taşıdığından habersiz. Yaklaşık 2.2 milyon Avrupalı HIV’le enfekte. Ancak üçte biri bunun farkında değildir.
