14 – 18: Rencontre entre le passé et le présent
Date du début: 4 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 14 sept. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In the frame of a “youth in action” program (part of Erasmus +), the grrrrr.eu cultural portal would like to invite young people from the Great Region to take part in a workshop around history and culture. The different activities will take place in a singular context: in 2014, Europe commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Great War. During a workshop which will take place from 4th to 14th September 2014, participants will discuss themes such as borders, peace and Europe. The “classical” frame of web journalism used by Grrrrr.eu will be for this workshop replaced by the use of a travel journal, allowing participants to work deeper on the main themes through writing, sketching and painting. Verdun and Koblenz have been chosen as the two main cities where the workshop will take place. Yet, other cities or stops can be chosen with the project partners. In Verdun, where powerful battles happened, grew a peace center – The Centre mondial de la Paix, des Libertés et des Droits de l’Homme - which invites the visitor to think about the First WW. This symbolic place has therefore been chosen as the first big step of the journey. The workshop will then move to Koblenz at the fort Ehrenbreitstein. This castle is an architectural witness of the battles through centuries, and became a peaceful meeting point to confront oneself with history through different facilities: national Museum, the Tomb of the Unknown German Soldier…The workshop will then come to an end with the official commemoration organized by the Great Region summit in Koblenz on September 12th. Officials will pay tribute to all the victims of the First World War. Speech, laying of a wreath on the Memorial, music and performing arts will also animate the day. On the different chosen spots, participants will therefore be able to link past and present. Experts and methodology Participants will benefit from the presence of history experts, artists and journalists who will accompany them technically along their journey. The different means of artistic expression chosen will allow a free exchange without any language obstacles. The different perspectives will also be encouraged during workshops between the partners coming from Rheinland-Pfalz, Saarland, Luxemburg and Wallonia. Thanks to a diary, which will be posted online, participants will be able to share their experiences and thoughts through Grrrr.eu so that other young people can discuss these themes. A sketchbook will allow everyone to fix one’s personal impressions on the paper. An exhibition will then follow (on Grrrrr.eu and in a cultural center) so that the visitors can skim through the thirty books designed during the workshop. We would like to work with institutional or associative partners working either with kids or allowing the workshop to connect with the public. The workshop is opened to every young people interested by culture in the Great Region. Thirty young people will get the chance to join this workshop. On a long term basis, this workshop will participate to the interconnection of the living space and common work within the Great Region in a context where borders between Germany and France are barely perceptible in the day-to-day life. This represents also a European identity improvement.
