1 + 2 The World and You
Date du début: 1 oct. 2014, Date de fin: 30 sept. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Context and background: The Scottish Government expect schools in Scotland to introduce the 1+2 Modern Languages policy, i.e. all pupils from Primary 1 (pupils aged 5) will begin to learn a modern foreign language and a second language from Primary 5 (pupils aged 9). Fife Council - our local authority - set up a group of 40 pilot schools to implement the 1 + 2 policy in different clusters across the region - in towns, in areas of deprivation and in rural areas in order to get a balanced representation of all schools in the authority. Objectives of the project: Our highest priority and main objective is to increase our competence and boost confidence in delivering exposure to Modern Languages, as well as encouraging, motivating and exposing the children to the Spanish language and culture. Number/Profile of Participants The support assistant at Springfield Primary School already had a knowledge of conversational Spanish and was very enthusiastic about expanding her skills. Description of Activities: To complement the training provided by the local authority, the support assistant will take part in language immersion activities in Spain. The course content has been adapted to meet the needs of our teachers provided - language teaching methodology in Early Years Education combined with gaining enhanced skills in the target language, therefore boosting confidence in speaking the target language. Methodology to be used: As head teacher I have identified with my teachers/support assistant their development needs and looked for high quality providers to run immersion courses abroad in conjunction with the Consejeria de Educacion Together we have developed the course content to the specific needs of our teachers/support assisstants; requirements in line with advice for the new national curriculum in Scotland. As head teacher I will monitor the experience of the course - there will be an evaluation of participants by the course provider and a evaluation of course by participants: Through the evaluation of the course and the subsequent interview with each participating teacher/support assistant I expect to get a clear picture of how successful / effective the course was. Description of results/impact envisaged: As head teacher I expect longer term benefits as we are looking forward to our teachers/support assistant becoming more fluent and more confident in their understanding and talking of the target language. Our pupils will greatly benefit from an enthused teacher who is able to speak accurately in the target language and will learn about foreign cultures first hand.
