Topic: Biomass as an important pillar within energy systems and the circular economy The call “Biomass as an important pillar within energy systems and the circular economy” aims to support innovative, collaborative pan-European, R&D&I projects focussing on technology readiness levels 2-7 (at the end of the funded project). Funding will be offered to excellent R&D&I proposals that provide clear added value through cooperation of partners in at least two (preferably more) participating countries. Novelty beyond the state of the art in the addressed value chain must be significant, and evidence of exploitation potential must be provided (e.g. by way of tangible industry commitment). Public funding would be available for this joint call from funding bodies in Austria, Germany, Poland, The Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. The indicative total available budget amounts to ca. 10 Mio €.
The call is expected to open closing date for prein October 2017 proposals in January with a 201 8 . In November 2017 a networking webinar will be organised to give researchers the chance to interlink with each other and build consortia. Draft p roject ideas and partner needs beforehand have to be sen t to the call secretariat . More information to be announced in the official call text.
Projects are expected to start in spring 201 9 . This call will be published on the webpages of ERA-NET Bioenergy and BESTF3 and on the web pages of the participating funding agencies (www.eranetbioenergy.net & www.eranetbestf.net)
The ERA-NET Bioenergy is a network of national funding organisations which support bioenergy projects. It was funded by the European Commission under FP6 between October 2004 and December 2010, but is now self-sustained (membership model), with participating funding organisations from Austria, Germany, Ireland The Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Poland and The United Kingdom. Further ministries or R&D funding agencies from other countries are always welcome to join the network or individual calls. ERA-NET Bioenergy has so far implemented 11 joint calls and thus contributed to the funding of 52 international R&D projects – the results can be found under www.eranetbioenergy.net. BESTF3 is an ERA-NET Cofund mechanism that addresses the shortfall of innovative bioenergy pilot and demonstration plants, resulting from a lack of finance as well as a number of technical hurdles. So far, the BESTF network has launched 3 calls and supported 8 demonstration projects. By combining the two ERA-NETs the networks grow together and provide added value compared to national funding. Supporting transnational research and knowledge exchange eventually increases the use of biomass in a Bioeconomy.
