CoMNet is a network of 50 community radio stations across the country, it has national coverage across Sierra Leone. CoMNet members report on various issues of society, including the right to food, land use and the Voluntary Guidelines for Land Governance. CoMNeT-SL was founded in November 2017, with the overriding objective of working in partnership in achieving common goal especially as it relates to championing human rights issues bothering around the citizenry of the country and beyond.

SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES

  • CoMNet-SL team plans and implement media campaign and awareness raising activities on the Right to Food and the Mobilization of Communities by network members. On responsible land use and farmers access to infrastructures.
  • CoMNet-SL members have provided and will continue to professional trainings for responsible media coverage on human issues across the Sierra Leone and its International partners.
  • CoMNet-SL will report and broadcast programs issues that falls in the international ream as a threat to global peace and securities drug, political and domestic violence, human trafficking, food security and reproductive health issues to name but a few.
  • CoMNet-SL members use their media platforms to mobilize communities across the country to campaign on human right related issues right to food through media production that focus on community participation.

These activities are achieved through activities ranging from policy dialogues and engagement of duty bearers, multi-stakeholder workshops, training of duty bearers and media practitioners, community engagement sessions and media outreach activities.

Against this backdrop, the Sierra Leone Network on the Right to Food (SiLNoRF) and Community Radio Network (CoMNet), with funding from BMZ and Welthungerhilfe, are jointly implementing a project advocating for the inclusion of the Right to Food in national policy making and empowering citizens to realize and claim their Right to Food. The project has a national coverage and targeting over four million Sierra Leoneans country wide.

The development and implementation of the partnership will also feed into the design of CoMNet-SL modus operandi and media mechanism for a civil society, which is among the key objective of the network members. We hope and expect to develop a more detailed working partnership relationship, which must be in line with and refer to the Universal Declaration of Human Right’s guidelines for the future.
