VALIDATION FOR MENTORING – Development of a validation framework for mentoring: evaluating the achievements of disabled and disadvantaged people

The project develops a comprehensive system for the validation of workplace mentoring for disabled and disadvantaged people in the job market, aiming at the promotion of a system which will define and implement overall principles and practical procedures; the project work phases specifically plan the adoption of pilot mentoring programmes to be set up in Romania and Slovenia, where mentoring is largely unknown, their promotion in Bulgaria and UK, where mentoring systems already exist, and test actions for a wider application at the European level. The project focuses on the needs of disabled and disadvantaged people who gain particular benefits from the non formal nature of mentoring: previous projects and different national systemic actions already confirmed that the overall benefits of mentoring, in terms of employability skills of the mentee and training skills of the mentor, can be expected to grow considerably in the short and in the medium term together with a) the use of innovative mentoring strategies, b) the definition of best practice in the field, c) the consolidation of mentoring schemes and of the multiplier effects that will follow, d) the fuller integration of the validation system into the structure of Europass, e) therefore, the consolidation of common informal learning validation criteria, f) the links with in-house training provision. The Validation For Mentoring system is an aid to the effective operation of specific programmes; by providing transferability and authoritative guidance in decisions about procedures and outcomes, it will play a formative role in the design as well as in relation to the monitoring of individual and collective performance.
