The SURCH network explored experiences of urbanregeneration with a focus on social inclusion through theactive use of cultural heritage. The five cities involved havedeveloped new knowledge in this field through theirexchange and have fed their results into their daily work withlocal partners.The network particularly focused on 3 sub themes:1. Creating mutual understanding between local actorsin urban regeneration2. promoting inclusion of communities in decision makingand benefit sharing from redevelopment3. contributing to intercultural awareness and understandingof values from local community level to national, transnationaland European levelA clear-cut conclusion from the networks activity is thaturban regeneration cannot be done without considering thecultural heritage of the city as a whole or that of oneof its districts, and a citys cultural baggage should even bethe starting point for urban regeneration initiatives.
