In the 2007-2013 EU budgetary period the LEADER program was launched in Slovakia. In Hungary this program had already started before being part of the EU, under the name: LEADER+. Within this project there were many successful and less successful action between 2004 and 2006. The Gerje-sztők Local Development Action Group had participated in this program wining altogether 48 million fund. The introduction and adaptation of LEADER+ showed the week point of these programs in Hungary. So this Local Action Group (LAG) could create the fourth generation of its LEADER program, which will ensure that the approved projects will be brought to effect in 2009. The LAG has some international experience, participating in the FICODER annual event in 2009, Spain, as member of the NATURAMA Association. Within the NATURAMA Association 9 Hungarian local action groups are working together on the popularization and marketing of local products. The Alsógaram-inshore Development Civil Partnership seated in Nagysalló (Tekovské Luzany), accepted its local development program, which was accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture Slovakia. First tenders are going to be executed 2009.Extremely lowly populated hamlets (two thirds of the settlements have less then 1000 population) are dangerously aging since the beginning 90s, as deep recession and high unemployment characterize the region. Launching of this LEADER program is essential for the survival of these hamlets. It would be efficient to get to know international examples for the LAG to make the program survive. Villages around the Lower-Garam live a recluse life as they are far from the center, with the help of a Hungarian LAG which has international relations not only their relations with other regions would be strengthened but the openness as well. The two collaborating regions have many in common, which make them successful partners in EU projects.
