Fire without borders
Date du début: 31 déc. 2003, Date de fin: 30 août 2006 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project originates from the wooded Karst area, across the Italian-Slovenian border, as if to prove, once more, that the wild rage of fire is uncontrollable and makes no distinction in its tragic and inexorable advance. Faced with the “environmental emergency” of fires breaking out because of natural causes or through pyromaniacs’ action, the institutions cannot stop in front of borders or similar barriers when dealing with the onerous task of fire-extinguishing . Fire is an unpredictable “animal”, to be fought with suitable techniques in wide areas and often changing and adverse weather conditions. Against this background the municipalities of Sgonico and Monrupino, together with the Slovenian municipality of Sežana, have joined their staff and equipment, thus testing a rational and joint fight against a fire in the woods next to or across the border. Finally, the whole drill is performed with a view to operational, linguistic and cartographic harmonization. This is the consistent goal of the participant groups, since it is the basic prerequisite to ensure an effective action and a greater likelihood of success.
