Co-operation between the Catholic radio stations of the two countries (On the wavelength of friendship)
Date du début: 31 mai 2012, Date de fin: 30 août 2013 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project's main contribution to a stronger economic and social integration of the border areas is in improving information flow and providing comprehensive information. Making joint radio programmes, exchanging news and all other activities to increase effectiveness, will result in the two nations' better understanding of each other. The partners would like to contribute to this by broadcasting economic, social, cultural and church news, and by strengthening personal connections. Broadcasting the programmes in the border areas as well as in other parts of the countries will also assist in achieving the goals. Through focussing on cross-border co-operation, the partners will be able to form the attitude of both nations, thus promoting a better understanding of each other, which will lead to getting closer to each other. The way in which the information is made public also matters a lot. In strained situations, amidst heated arguments, it is difficult for the media to restrain emotions by providing objective information. A peculiar feature of this idea is that, in accordance with Christian values, the news and the information that concern the cross-border co-operation of the two nations, should be made public in a kind and loving way, "on friendly wavelengths". This approach will assist in achieving the goals and will be a step on the way towards a historical reconciliation. Achievements: Although Hungary and Slovakia joined the European Union and became members of the Schengen zone, there is still a lack of trust which would promote good co-operation between them. On the contrary, the number of problems has increased and new tensions were born. Joint development in economically prosperous areas is extremely dynamic. The possibility to move, find employment and set up businesses without restriction fell on rich ground. For this reason it is more and more important to give useful information and positive examples to the public. The church, which plays an important role in the daily life of the border areas may prove to be a tool in strengthening a sense of belonging. The partners have recognized the need to support the daily lives of the people who live in the border areas to increase the mutual trust and the efficiency of cross-border co-operation through activities that they consider the most effective. The project On the wavelength of friendship is a joint project of two Christian media: Radio Lumen in Slovakia and Szent István Rádió in Hungary with the cooperation of the Dome of Saint Gerharda Pastoral Center in Košice. It was realized with weekly radio programmes where church news, social, cultural and ecological reports were broadcast. Our listeners appreciated the result of the joint work. Public meetings, posters, leaflets and books strengthened the influence of the radio programmes.
